STYLING: YOUNG AND REBELLIOUS

This trip was so fun. We set out around 11AM and headed towards Fredericksburg. Stopping to shoot as we pleased, we found cool trinket shops and passed bad jokes. I was delerious from not sleeping much the night before but I have never failed to enjoy a hangout session with these two cool photographer buddies. We reached Fredericksburg, breaked for some quality German cuisine, and resumed shooting. Asking the store owner whether we could pretend to shoplift was quite the amusing experience. We did not reach home until 11PM, but I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
I'm going on a three day road trip to Marfa with these guys, Cameron (the model), another babe Meghan, and a makeup artist late August. Tons of photos coming from that trip. The wanderlust spirit in me has really inspired me to take photoshoots onto the road...

I have been getting more into photography, but it's always difficult to attempt to hone two creative skills at the same time, especially if they are both on the side of getting a J.D.

I find that getting even slightly better at photography makes me a better stylist on set. I think more about the lighting and how it falls on the clothing. I think more about the Picture, rather than just my internal creative references.

The past few months have seen me dipping my toes back into styling on the side of school and work. I love it so much...even the shoots that demand me to get up at 5AM and get home at 1AM. I'll post some of my styling work soon.

RESURRECTION

(Me, circa summer of 2011)

Hi All,
Are you still there? I've decided that I will resurrect this blog after all. However, instead of taking the route I used to take, I'm going a slightly different path. This blog will become kind of a mash-up between some personal style, a bit of behind-the-scenes, and some personal tidbits from my non-fashionable life as a Patent Law student. I really hope to share the challenges of balancing a day job as a patent law student/eventual patent lawyer and a side job as a freelance stylist. While I most likely won't blog much about law (I created In Her Stilettos at first to find a creative escape from Chemical Engineering classes and school after all), I will talk about being a non-creatively trained person in a creative's world. I also hope to blog this time for me. While the Stylish Sophisticate will be more polished, this particular space will be more casual and hopefully fun.

A bit of an update on my life and style in case there are any old readers still hanging around...

I'm now officially settled into NYC. I love it here, but I'm very much still proud to consider myself a Texan. I think about moving back to Texas eventually a lot, but I moved to NYC to be away from my safety net and to challenge myself.

A big reason of why I ended up abandoning this blog previously was because of school, but there were additional considerations that contributed to the decision. I wanted to do well my 1L (equivalent of "law school freshman") year grades-wise, but I REALLY wanted to take a break away from the Fashion Scene because it was starting to cloud my judgment in a variety of ways. I will spare you the details, but let's just say... the mental break was much needed, and I enjoyed not being in front of the limelight. I still very much prefer to be behind the camera and to be a stylist and creative director on shoots, hence why this blog will turn into more of a blog documenting my styling projects as well as a bit of personal style.

Now I'm going into my last (3L) year of Law School. I'm interning at Big Law (that's what they call the bigger, international law firms) for the summer in their Patent Litigation department. I am also a Trade Secrets Fellow and I am working on the NYC Bar Sci & Law Committee.

Finally, as you might know, I've founded the Stylish Sophisticate as a professional style magazine. As a fashion-loving girl first in Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry and now in Law, I have noticed a lack of of fashion guidance in fashion magazines for those of us with nine-to-five jobs and DRESS CODES at those jobs.

As for my personal style, I've changed quite a bit. You will see. I'm still as maximalistic as ever, but I've grown up just a tad on my fashion choices. I still love crazy pants and shoes, but I'm also drawn to the utility of the perfectly-constructed blazer or a classic silk cream button-down blouse.

I hope you will stay around to grow with me,

-Diya

New Ventures

Hi All,

As you may have noticed, I have stopped posting on this personal fashion blog for some time now. With the oversaturation of the personal fashion blog niche, I no longer felt like I had anything of value to contribute to the digital realm. Plus as I grew older, I felt silly posting daily shots of myself wearing heels and prancing around the streets.

I have started a new venture with a fashion photographer and a fashion designer- a new digital magazine aimed at providing professional females in every industry ideas on what to wear to work. It will range from editorials following a work week in the life of an inspiring, stylish female to outfit collages adapting runway trends into office-appropriate attire to Q and A on what to wear to an interview.

The website is yet to be launched but please keep in touch via our FB page and our twitter page. (Edit: The Professional Style Digital Magazine is now out!)

Will I keep up this personal fashion blog? The answer is unknown to me. I will keep the site up until I decide the answer to that question. At the moment I am directing my creative energy towards something that I perceive to be way more useful to the general public than my personal style.

If you  are or know of a professional, inspiring, and stylish female living in the NYC area that you would love to see featured please email me at inherstilettos@gmail.com. If you are a make-up artist, stylist, hairstylist, photographer, or general fashion enthusiast interested in contributing to our new venture, please contact me as well.

Thanks for reading,

-Diya

EDIT: After much debate and a few readers' emails/comments on my social media channels, I have decided to resurrect this blog... but this time around, I want to keep blogging for ME, and not for anyone else. I hope you'll enjoy this new direction.
